Making a good impression on
world leaders – G8 at Gleneagles

Early in 2005, Barkers was briefed to create and project-manage all the activity promoting Scotland’s image internationally in advance of the G8 summit.

Our audience was the G8 world leaders, their ministers and journalists from around the world. The work had to illustrate what it is like to live, work and learn in contemporary Scotland. We were also to position Scotland as ‘the best small country in the world’.

We developed a range of activities and events including inbound journalist media trips and the First Minister’s gift to G8 leaders. An interactive exhibition was created, displaying pioneering Scottish people past and present who have made an impact on life in the 21st century.

Barkers also commissioned advertising, using images of the people of Scotland, for use on bus sides, at airports, in railway stations and to dress the streets of Scotland’s six cities.

Other collateral material: web pages, a CD-Rom and a brochure was created and distributed in media packs and to visitors. Much of this material is still in daily use.
