Back Scotland’s bid
In January 2006 Glasgow’s Bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games was launched. Barkers was commissioned to build on this, and to implement PR activity in the months prior to the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. The campaign was devised to create interest and, most importantly, to encourage people across the country to Back Scotland’s Bid via the web, text message or by post.
Advertising was minimal, with very limited opportunities for visual awareness, so PR played a significant role in achieving brand awareness.
Barkers implemented a campaign featuring a variety of activities building the brand and raising awareness of the call to action. Scottish radio stations were briefed and we secured their support with daily presenter reads and talk-ups. Over 60 high profile Scots and other celebrities also joined the campaign.
News releases were issued, including one to all of the bodies who govern sport in Scotland. These were used in their member communications, resulting in editorial in a number of print and on-line publications. Several photo calls were organised, including one with the Scottish international rugby team and Patricia Ferguson, MSP.
Barkers organised other supporting events. A road show was sponsored by Radio Clyde and featured on-site presenters, on-site broadcast of shows, pre-publicity and news coverage throughout the day. Barkers also booked several live acts to perform on the day.
