Jason Wassell
Associate Director
Jason has worked in public relations for the last 12 years, with considerable experience in managing and communicating major policy issues. He has worked both in-house within the public sector and in consultancy for both the private and public sector.
Initially working in European policy, he joined the National Health Service in Angus where he was responsible for developing a local press office, and advising the Chief Executive on issues such as internal communications and community affairs.
In 1998 he joined Dundee City Council where he was part of a busy press office advising councillors and senior officials.
Entering consultancy in 2000, Jason has managed and supported the development of corporate communication strategies for a number of clients including Transco, The Commission for Racial Equality, The British Council and The Electoral Commission.
Joining Barkers in 2002, he has primarily worked as a consultant to the Scottish Executive with experience across a number of projects including racism, sustainable development and tackling domestic violence. During late 2004 he worked for First Minister in the early development of the Fresh Talent and Promotion of Scotland initiative.
With experience of corporate communications and crisis management, Jason was seconded to the Scottish Executive during 2006 to manage an 18 month project advising the Government on how they should communicate with the public during a civil emergency, such as extreme weather, health pandemic or terrorist attack.
Jason holds an MA in Politics and American Studies from the University of Dundee, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations. He is an accredited practitioner and member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
